Joining the Orchestra _ FAQs

When and where does the orchestra rehearse
The orchestra meets every Monday between September and July during term time. Rehearsals take place in the Main Hall at Burleigh College in Loughborough which is just off the A512 Ashby Road.

How many concerts are performed each year
Generally the orchestra performs 2 concerts each year, one in January and one in June.

How much does it cost to join the orchestra
Members pay subs to cover the cost of the rehearsal room, hire of music etc. Subs are £55 per year if paid as a lump sum, £22 per term over 3 terms or £7.50 per month for 8 months if paid by direct debit.

What playing standard is required
The orchestra welcomes players of all interests and backgrounds, provided they meet a minimum playing standard. In the larger string sections, where we already have some strong players, we are happy to accept most players, so anyone of Grade 5 standard (or with playing experience) is welcome. We do not hold formal auditions for string instruments so we encourage you to just come along and play with us for an evening. For exposed instruments like woodwind and brass, we require good players perhaps of grade 7 or 8 for solo instruments. Vacancies for wind players arise from time to time but it is best to check with us first for vacancies.
